Whitehursts Are Loyal and Generous Donors

Whitehurst smilingJay and Denise Whitehurst have been part of the Lake Highland Preparatory School family for more than 26 years. They enrolled their older child, Gregory, in Pre-K in 1994. Greg graduated in 2008 and their second son, Bryan (also a student since Pre-K), graduated in 2010. In their years as Lake Highland parents, Jay and Denise have served the school in myriad ways. Denise worked with the LHPA (Lake Highland Parent Association) and served on the Athletic Booster Board. Jay served on the Board of Visitors, was elected as Trustee in 2010, and served as a member of the Executive Committee and also on two LHPS strategic planning committees. Their dedicated, thoughtful leadership for LHPS reflect their appreciation for our school’s mission and our focus on building the intellect and character of our students.

In addition to their gifts of time and talent, Denise and Jay are loyal and generous donors to Lake Highland. They consistently support the Highlander Fund, and they established an endowment fund to benefit the Debate Program. It is only natural they are among the first charter members of the Legacy Society. The Society recognizes benefactors who provide for Lake Highland through a planned or deferred gift.

The Whitehursts understand the need for building our endowment and worked with Lake Highland to create an endowment fund through their estate plan. It is unrestricted, allowing the school's leadership to use the income from the fund to meet the top priorities and needs of the school in perpetuity. Their gift to Lake Highland is part of a comprehensive estate plan that provides for family as well as their philanthropic priorities.

This bequest truly will ensure the future of Lake Highland while honoring the past. The Whitehursts hope their gift will inspire others to consider Lake Highland in their estate plans. Their legacy is both significant and powerful.
